From 9 to 20 March, the premises of the International Office for Water in France hosted the second part of a programme training Palestinian Water Authority technicians in managing collective sanitation processes.
HAMAP, which leads the project, entrusted the International Office for Water (OIEau) with the training of 10 to 12 engineers and technicians from the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) in sanitation.
The training runs in several phases: two initial continuing education sessions were already held in September and November 2013 in Ramallah. Their purpose was to study the various treatment techniques and the technical criteria for choosing a treatment plant. A second training session was held in France with field and site visits, accompanied by the technical managers and by the trainers. A final training session will take place on site in the West Bank before the end of the year, at the various local wastewater treatment sites.
Funded by the Adour Garonne water agency, this project aims to strengthen capacity to deliver sanitation and manage wastewater in the West Bank. The Adour-Garonne water agency is an important partner of French decentralised cooperation in water and sanitation in Palestine. It signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) in 2008.
