Ngazidja is the largest and most populated of the three islands of the Comoros archipelago.
With more than 85% of the population having no access to drinking water and 66% no access to sanitation, water is a priority.

As part of the decentralised cooperation partnership between the governorate of Ngazidja and the urban community of Dunkirk, HAMAP-Humanitaire is working to rehabilitate and extend the drinking water supply network of 6 villages in the commune of Itsahidi.

Our work
ACTING FOR WATER
IN COMOROS
On the island of Ngazidja, HAMAP is rehabilitating and extending the drinking water supply network of 6 villages in the commune of Itsahidi from the secured borehole built by AFD.
The gravity-fed distribution system carries water from the Midjendjeni spring to the villages.
We run community awareness campaigns on water and hygiene issues and are setting up a long-term management system for the governance of the water network.
