Cameroon has water resources, but they are unevenly distributed.

In rural areas, 35% of the population has access to water, but its quality remains unfit for consumption.

Groundwater is hard to mobilise and climate change is intensifying episodes of drought and flooding.

In 2024, HAMAP-Humanitaire carried out an exploratory mission in the communities of Massock Songloulou, where the villages have hand pumps but the water is still not drinkable.

ACTING FOR WATER
IN CAMEROON

In 2024, HAMAP carried out an exploratory mission in the communities of Massock Songloulou to assess water and sanitation needs. The villages of Songmbengue, Kahn, Onna and Pendjock have hand pumps but the water is still not drinkable. People prefer river water, which causes waterborne disease. The school in Pendjock has neither water nor sanitation. HAMAP is identifying local partners and preparing a drinking water supply project for these communities.
