The rural commune of Tanandava Station lies in south-west Madagascar, on the banks of the Mangoky river.
Despite this proximity to the river, drinking water is lacking.

The sanitation access rate in the commune was 1%, with open defecation widely practised.
HAMAP-Humanitaire has built a drinking water supply system serving the whole main village, with delegated public service management.

ACTING FOR WATER
IN MADAGASCAR
In the rural commune of Tanandava Station, HAMAP has drilled a borehole fitted with a submersible pump, built a 50 m³ reservoir and laid a 6 km gravity-fed distribution network with 5 public kiosks. The school and the health centre are connected to the network. A social marketing campaign encourages private connections. A delegated public service arrangement ensures the infrastructure is managed sustainably by the local authorities.
