HAMAP-Humanitaire supports the Burkinabe association SOS Filles Meres, helping it give structure and permanence to its work with young mothers and their children.
Ouagadougou today sees many unwanted pregnancies, particularly among young women who have left school. They are then rejected, banished and condemned by society and by their families. Some are taken in and exploited, others end up on the street in conditions of extreme precariousness and vulnerability.
The association SOS Filles Meres, founded in 2006, helps these young women by taking them in, offering them housing and supporting them as they rebuild a place in society and in work. The association has now acquired land on the outskirts of Ouagadougou, but does not have the means to build a shelter or to set up educational activities allowing the young women to find their place in society again. For now they are housed in a rented house that has become too small for what SOS Filles Meres needs.
The project will make the following possible:
- Building a shelter and a solidarity shop
- Drilling a private borehole on the shelter's land
- Schooling for children of school age
- Literacy sessions for the young mothers
- Awareness sessions (family planning, women's rights, children's rights) for the young mothers
- Vocational training for the young mothers (soap making, sewing, weaving and nutrition)
In total around 20 young mothers and their children will be taken in and cared for by the association. This project will allow the association to welcome many more young women and to respond a little better to the high demand.
