Our water and sanitation project officer travelled to the Comoros from 5 to 20 March 2023. The aim of the mission was to meet all the project partners and to review the first 6 months of the project. Its objective is to guarantee a drinking water supply to 6 villages in the municipality of Itsahidi, in the Mbadjini-Est region on the island of Grande Comore.
The first days were given over to meeting all the Comorian and French institutional partners.

- The Director General for Energy, Mines and Water (DGEME)
- The Director General of the National Water Operation and Distribution Company (SONEDE)
- The Cooperation and Cultural Affairs Department of the French Embassy (SCAC)
- The French Development Agency (AFD)
The project is scheduled to run for 24 months. The first quarter has now passed and two events were organised during this mission:
- A steering committee with the Governorate and the Dunkirk Urban Community to review progress over the project's first 6 months
- A technical monitoring committee with the project's technical partners, to validate the outline design study for the future drinking water supply network
This first mission made it possible to gauge how much this project is awaited among the communities, and the scale of the drinking water problem on the island of Grande Comore. These first six months of the project were crucial in preparing for the activities to come.
