Akshaya Store has opened its doors!
Marine Guenin, project officer at HAMAP-Humanitaire, and Fabien Even, a trainee military engineer, were in India in July on an evaluation mission concerning the Akshaya Store social shop project.
In partnership with the Indian association Prime Trust, in 2015 we launched a project whose aim is to open a retail outlet dedicated exclusively to women holding a microcredit with Prime Trust. These women, selected for their craft skills, now have a space to display and sell the items they make: earrings, bags and pouches in Indian fabric, and terracotta tableware.
The shop is a real success: 39 women now have additional and more secure income!
The social shop thus helps women become self-reliant while securing its own future. It has also created three additional jobs: two sales assistants and one person in charge of supplies. On site, Marine and Fabien analysed the project's impact and its financial side, then prepared the follow-up for the next 6 months.

This mission to India also allowed HAMAP-Humanitaire to follow the progress of the water and sanitation project for the school in the town of Uppuvelur. This project aims to improve hygiene conditions so that pupils can study in better conditions. During the mission, one day was devoted to validating the first phase: fitting out a borehole. For the second phase, an opening ceremony was held to mark the construction of the latrines and the kitchen. The ceremony was an opportunity to celebrate the laying of the first stone of the latrines.
