Six humanitarian missions with HAMAP-Humanitaire
In Morocco and Cambodia, and the wish to carry on!
As a French teacher, I dived into 2 unknown worlds: the health professions and foreign countries.
Quite a dive, but when you come up for air, what joy and what interesting encounters!
Work full of suspense and of improvisation in the field. You have to adapt to the equipment, the premises, the partners and so on.
Many medical consultations, minor injuries treated, medicines to hand out, a demanding pace.
Very full days, sometimes tiring, but what satisfaction to have taken part in these missions!
The smiles of children and adults, the best reward there is!
Staying with local families, sharing meals with them, playing with the children: what better way to build friendships and to understand one another.
Adapting to the country is easier in some places than others. Happily, the team is there, and the old hands support the newcomers. And the daily evening meeting resolves the difficulties. It is a convivial moment, with a lot of laughter!
Feeling useful, helping others. Sharing the NGO's values is essential!
At the end of each mission I feel pride and humility :
- Pride, because the mission's objective has generally been met.
- Humility, because the solidarity, friendship, generosity and simplicity we share blur borders and differences.
Only one wish: to go back!
