From 8 to 26 June 2022, HAMAP-Humanitaire travelled to Togo for medical and social work with the people of the Tchekpo canton.
The canton has 25,000 inhabitants and only a field hospital 20 kilometres away. Otherwise there is a single clinic, with no doctors. Only doctors from Lome come twice a year to follow up patients with chronic conditions.
A request for help was sent to HAMAP-Humanitaire to support the most disadvantaged local people in the field of health and to make up for the shortage of medical provision. It was decided to create a partnership between HAMAP-Humanitaire and 2 associations, Yotonor and Ange, in order to give shape to our work in Togo and make it last.
The days consisted of medical consultations across the villages of Tchekpo, Djigbe and Deve. Our volunteers were accompanied by a doctor or a nurse and a translator.
In all, that meant 11 days of consultations across three sites, 4 days on which our team split in two to cover two sites at once, 1,052 consultations and 255 nursing treatments.
