HAMAP-Humanitaire travelled to Palestine from 6 to 16 March 2022 on a mission to follow up the water and sanitation projects under way.

HAMAP-Humanitaire accompanied a delegation from the Eau du Bassin Rennais authority to Beitunia to assess what had been achieved so far and to formally launch the project to renovate and modernise the water network of the town of Beitunia. With the support of the Consulate of France, the Loire Bretagne water agency and the Agence Francaise de Developpement, this project should make it possible to:

  • replace 3 kilometres of ageing, undersized supply pipe, from the water entry point to the town's reservoir
  • bring the 500 m³ reservoir back into service, out of use for 15 years for lack of sufficient pressure
  • install zone and flow meters so that the town's services can steer and run the network more efficiently
  • provide technical training for the operating staff and training on the governance of the system, to strengthen the management of the town's public water service.

HAMAP-Humanitaire also travelled to Jalboun, one of the last villages in Palestine with no collective water network at all: drinking water is delivered by tanker truck. A review of the situation was carried out and priority lines of action drawn up together with the services of the town of Jalboun.

Finally, HAMAP followed up the work carried out within the cooperation between the Governorate of Tubas and the Occitanie region. This cooperation covers 4 priority areas of development:

  • access to healthcare
  • sustainable agriculture
  • water and sanitation governance
  • education

Numerous meetings with the partners made it possible to assess past work and to consider continuing the cooperation across these different strands.
