On Tuesday 15 September the executive board met in Bethune, bringing together many elected representatives of the Bethune Bruay Artois Lys Romane agglomeration community (100 communes).
For many years the Bethune Bruay Artois Lys Romane agglomeration community has supported the projects of HAMAP-Humanitaire. This meeting was therefore an opportunity for HAMAP to present the concrete results of the projects the agglomeration community supports. Focused mainly on improving sanitation, and located in Africa (Senegal, Mauritania and Burkina Faso), these projects benefit the pupils and teachers whose schools are equipped with latrines.
One observation: a growing number of pupils attending the schools, girls in particular, now feel safer. It is worth noting that awareness-raising among these hundreds of children about hygiene and about giving up open defecation is carried out by the pupils themselves. A handful are elected, involved, and use every means, from theatre to games, to pass the message on to their classmates.
Since 2012 the Bethune Bruay Artois Lys Romane agglomeration community has also funded projects in Cambodia, India, Madagascar and Haiti. Our thanks to them for their support!
