On Saturday 6 April 2019 at the Atrium in Chaville, our round table « Women: a lever in solidarity projects in France and abroad » brought together figures from the humanitarian, social and institutional worlds to discuss the situation of women around the world.
With the patronage and participation of Jean-Jacques Guillet, Mayor of Chaville, and hosted by Christian James, Vice-President of the Club Audiovisuel de Paris, the speakers set out the role of women in international solidarity: Florence Gabay, Vice-President and General Delegate of the Robert Schuman Institute for Europe, Ghada Hatem, President of the Maison des Femmes in St Denis and a gynaecologist, Matilde Biyalla, HAMAP-Humanitaire's local partner in Cameroon and a member of the associations Olina de Sobia and Femmes Rurales, and Joel Kaigre, Founding President of HAMAP-Humanitaire.
Ghada Hatem on health, Florence Gabay on education, Matilde Biyalla on women's rights: each speaker spoke individually and on behalf of their organisation to claim women's place within our humanitarian constellation: « Rural women live in the countryside, farm the fields, raise the livestock, collect water and firewood and care for the family, very heavy tasks and family and domestic responsibilities that leave them very little time for income-generating activities. Yet despite this heavy burden, the main obstacle preventing women from rising economically and socially is illiteracy. » Matilde Biyalla
