Joel Kaigre, president of HAMAP-Humanitaire, travelled to Dakar, Senegal, on an institutional and follow-up mission from 26 June to 1 July. He was accompanied by Ibrahima Diouf, doctor of state, professor at the university of Dakar and HAMAP Ambassador. The aim of this mission was to meet local actors and the relevant ministries in order to strengthen our partnerships and set up two projects.
The first is a project to build sanitation blocks, which has already proved itself in 4 schools where, thanks to the construction of toilets and to raising pupils' awareness of good hygiene practice, absenteeism has fallen sharply, particularly among girls, and the school's results are much better. So that this project can expand more quickly, meetings were held with:
– The Minister-Counsellor to the President
– The permanent secretary of the Association of Mayors of Senegal
– The Ministry for Women, Family and Children to discuss signing a headquarters agreement or a framework agreement – The education and training inspector (IEF) in Guediawaye
– The director of PEPAM (the millennium drinking water and sanitation programme in Guediawaye)
– The mayor of Wakhinane Nimzatt who is interested in building toilets in the schools of his commune

The second is a waste collection and sorting project being designed with the contribution of two HAMAP partner associations, chaired respectively by Eric Mendy and Philippe Mendy: ASPEB (Association pour la Solidarite et la Promotion de l'Entreprenariat de la Banlieue de Dakar) and 100% citoyens. This project combines awareness-raising and training for pupils and the wider population on sustainable ecology, hygiene, health and citizenship. To help the project take shape, the mission met potential partners on site to involve them:
– The French Embassy in Senegal
– The secretary general to the education authority inspector
– A primary education inspector
Finally, a meeting was held with the director of the Order of Malta hospital who would like to host future trainee nurses and physiotherapists at the hospital. This introduction made it possible to clarify the conditions for welcoming and integrating them.
