Cambodia, a country devastated by the Khmer Rouge.
Our destination was the Siem Reap region and Tonle Sap lake, for an immersion in these rice-growing and fishing villages. The medical staff on the team included French and Khmer doctors, nurses and a dentist.
Consultations took place in health centres, in schools and on floating platforms. Having a dentist with us was a real stroke of luck for the villagers: access to care, mostly extractions, on a chair admittedly, but in very good conditions of asepsis and anaesthesia.
Free medical care and the medicines that went with it proved precious for the most deprived villagers.
We were very fortunate to share their lives and their difficulties. Every mission is a gift for the volunteer that I am; each time I come back a little richer from this exceptional experience, far from everyday life.
