Humanitarian emergencies are multiplying, but emergency aid is not enough. HAMAP-Humanitaire argues for a long-term development approach in which every project is designed to transform living conditions for good, beyond the period of intervention.
Building together with local actors
Whether the work lasts depends on communities being genuinely involved from the moment a project is designed. This approach, more demanding than simply handing out aid, ensures that the solutions put in place meet the needs identified and keep working after the NGO has left.
