This 2020 issue of HAMAP Mag is devoted to access to drinking water and sanitation, a fundamental right still denied to millions of people worldwide. HAMAP-Humanitaire runs projects in around fifteen countries to guarantee this vital right.

In this issue

  • Drinking water as a fundamental human right
  • Sanitation and hygiene programmes in Africa, Asia and the Middle East
  • Strengthening local skills for the sustainable management of the facilities
  • Partnerships with local authorities and beneficiary communities

Why water is still a struggle

Nearly 2 billion people still have no access to a safe source of drinking water. In the rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa, the Sahel and South East Asia, HAMAP-Humanitaire builds boreholes, wells and water supply networks, while training communities to maintain them.

The HAMAP-Humanitaire approach

Our method rests on three pillars: identifying needs with local actors, delivering technical solutions suited to the context, and making the work last through training and the transfer of skills to local management committees.
