On the night of 1 July, with an unusually intense start to the monsoon, torrential rain caused significant loss of life and property, above all in the slum where the girls supported by our partner associations Un Toit a Bombay and GIFT live.
The association UTAB has worked in the Jamrushi Nagar slum for 12 years, and the Indian partner association GIFT was set up in 2010 to open a place of protection, a Day Care Centre, right next to the slum hit today. For the past year HAMAP-Humanitaire has worked closely with UTAB and GIFT, who have set up school sponsorships for around 150 girls and other sponsorships to keep this vital place of welcome running. Some of the sponsored girls and their families have lost a loved one and, to add to the pain, have also lost everything they owned.

The Day Care Centre exceptionally opened its doors to around ten of these families from the slum for the night. A chain of solidarity is forming, and your donations and messages of support are welcome to help life return to normal, and to dignity, as quickly as possible, so that the sponsored girls in particular can go back to school.
