Alongside 29 other associations and NGOs, our NGO HAMAP-Humanitaire supports the campaign “Water is a right” led by Coalition Eau and the France Libertes Foundation.

Even today, 2.2 billion people worldwide still have no access to drinking water and 4.2 billion live without access to a toilet.

On access to water and sanitation, France is also behind, in mainland France but above all in the overseas territories.

Yet access to water and sanitation was recognised as a human right in 2010 by the United Nations. Ten years on, the challenges remain immense!

As part of this campaign a “WATER MANIFESTO” has been drawn up, and we want as many elected representatives and candidates in the 2020 municipal elections as possible to commit to the right to water, including internationally, along these lines:

– Develop decentralised cooperation to support access to water and sanitation,

– Increase funding for decentralised solidarity, in particular through the Oudin-Santini Act,

– Strengthen citizen participation and partnership working.
