Construction and renovation of sanitary facilities in secondary schools
Mauritania
Although it is the economic capital of Mauritania, the city of Nouadhibou faces a lack of access to water and sanitation facilities. The schools targeted by the project have an average of one toilet for every 200 students, far from the international standards that recommend an average of one toilet for every 60 students.
To remedy this worrying situation, a first phase of rehabilitation and construction of sanitary blocks was carried out in 8 elementary school in Nouadhibou in partnership with RONG and HAMAP Humanitaire.
The present project aims to promote access to sanitation in 8 secondary schools (colleges and high schools) of the city. It will involve rehabilitating and building new sanitary facilities in order to promote hygiene in schools and thus improve the quality of education in the region.
