SIVOM SAGe and Sandiara cooperation: lasting access to drinking water and sanitation
The project
THE CONTEXT
The project is part of the decentralised cooperation between SIVOM SAGe (France) and the Commune of Sandiara (Senegal). It responds to the growing need for drinking water and sanitation in outlying villages that are poorly served.

AIMS AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives
- Improve access to water, hygiene and sanitation in the commune of Sandiara
Main activities
- Water development plan : A water development plan drawn up covering all the villages not yet connected.
- Needs assessment : Field surveys and assessment of drinking water needs.
- Network extension : Extension of the NDP network to the priority villages.
- Connections : Household connections for families.
- Family latrines : Family latrines built.
- Awareness raising : Public meetings and awareness campaigns.
- Ecological wastewater treatment : An ecological wastewater treatment system set up at the Louly Ngogom school, with the treated water reused to irrigate a school garden and orchard.
