The project

THE CONTEXT

From 2020 to 2021, HAMAP-Humanitaire continued its support for access to water and sanitation in the commune of Putrea. Run with Rainwater Cambodia, with support from the Agences de l'eau Loire-Bretagne and Rhin-Meuse, this second phase benefited 1,830 people.

AIMS AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives

  • Bring about a lasting improvement in the health and living conditions of the people of Putrea commune
  • Schoolchildren manage health risks better and adopt good hygiene practices
  • People in the target villages have lasting access to a source of drinking water
  • People in the target villages have lasting access to sanitation facilities

Main activities

  • Training for teachers : Training school teachers and the WASH support committee in good hygiene practices and in how to raise awareness among pupils.
  • Awareness among pupils : Awareness sessions run by the trained teachers on personal, family and environmental hygiene, and celebration of handwashing day.
  • Network extension : Extension of the water network built during the first phase.
  • Neighbouring villages : A water distribution system set up for the neighbouring villages.
  • CLTS sessions : Community-led total sanitation sessions run in the 3 villages.
  • Local supply chain : Support for private initiative in latrine building, with a local entrepreneur selling hygiene products and WASH facilities.
