Access to water and sanitation in Putrea commune, Stung Sen basin, Phase 1
The project
THE CONTEXT
From 2019 to 2020, HAMAP-Humanitaire worked in the commune of Putrea, in Preah Vihear province, to further improve access to water and sanitation in the Stung Sen basin. Run with the Tonle Sap Authority, this second phase benefited 4,500 people.

AIMS AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives
- Bring about a lasting improvement in the health and living conditions of the people of Putrea commune
- Schoolchildren manage health risks better and adopt good hygiene practices
- People in the 3 target villages have lasting access to a source of drinking water
- People in the 3 target villages have lasting access to sanitation facilities
Main activities
- Training for teachers : Training school teachers and the WASH support committee in good hygiene practices and in how to raise awareness among pupils.
- Awareness among pupils : Awareness sessions run by the trained teachers on personal, family and environmental hygiene, and celebration of handwashing day.
- Water filtration unit : Installation of the water filtration unit.
- Family latrines : Latrines built for 181 families living below the poverty line.
- Local supply chain : Support for private initiative in latrine building, with a local entrepreneur selling hygiene products and WASH facilities.
