class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Stung Sen basin in Cambodia, the rural communes of Reaksa and Tang Krasov face major water-related challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Limited access to drinking water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lack of sanitation facilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inadequate hygiene practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High health and environmental risks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To address these challenges, in November 2022 HAMAP-Humanitaire launched a multi-year project in partnership with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The local NGO Rain Water Cambodia (RWC)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The local authorities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Rhin-Meuse Water Agency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Toulouse Metropole<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The David Hadida Foundation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-grid wp-container-core-group-is-layout-50eac3a5 wp-block-group-is-layout-grid\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full class=\"wp-block-heading\">An integrated approach built on three strands<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An integrated strategy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project rests on three complementary pillars:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Building infrastructure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthening local capacity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Raising awareness of hygiene practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These activities aim to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Give communities greater independence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improve the management of resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Infrastructure for lasting access to water<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Installing supply systems<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Tang Krasov:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A borehole 70 metres deep<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 45 m3 water tower<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>7,884 metres of pipework<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A hybrid solar-powered pump<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>141 households served (more than 700 people)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Reaksa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>800-metre extension of the existing network<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>14 additional households connected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system was designed to be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Affordable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economically viable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Improving sanitation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Construction of 150 family latrines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Priority given to vulnerable households<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training in use and maintenance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reduce health risks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prevent contamination of the environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strengthening local governance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Structured community management<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Tang Krasov:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Creation of a water management committee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>20 members trained in administrative and technical management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monitoring, billing and reporting handled locally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A gradual handover is under way to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Stung Sen Basin Drinking Water Association (AEPSS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stronger coordination<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>6 review meetings with the local authorities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participation in working groups on water resource management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Awareness raising and community mobilisation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Large-scale activities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Information campaigns among households<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Launch workshops and community meetings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training sessions in villages and schools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than <strong>11,000 people reached<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pupils and teachers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Community representatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Service users<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A structured framework<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Baseline survey of 130 households<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quarterly coordination meetings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Technical monitoring of the installations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technical and external support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Involvement of 3 engineering students (Arts et Metiers d&#039;Angers)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Independent external evaluation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Measure the impacts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify areas for improvement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthen local capacity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Concrete and lasting results<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project has delivered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A significant improvement in access to drinking water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better access to sanitation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The adoption of safer hygiene practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stronger local skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the infrastructure, the project rests on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul network<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HAMAP-Humanitaire and Rain Water Cambodia are considering a new phase:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Extension of the network in Tang Krasov<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Target: 75% of households connected, against 25% today<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Expected benefits<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More subscribers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optimised volumes of water distributed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A gradual reduction in costs for users<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stronger economic
