Construction and rehabilitation of sanitary blocks in schools
Commune of Nouadhibou – Mauritania
In the north of Mauritania, in a peri-urban setting, school environments are degraded by the activities of students who do not have functioning sanitary facilities. Access to schools for young girls has been compromised. The city of Nouadhibou and the RONG, our local partner for several years in this region, have called upon HAMAP-Humanitaire to help them improve the sanitary conditions of 8 schools in the city of Nouadhibou, in accordance with the guidelines established by the government and the methods in place.
Goal
To improve access to education for children and young girls in Nouadhibou by setting up sanitary blocks in schools.
- Raising awareness among students, parents and educational staff
- Construction of 16 sanitary blocks and renovation of 8 sanitary blocks (96 toilets)
- Formation of a school health committee
- 5 380 students and 120 teaching staff from 8 public schools in Nouadhibou.
