The city of Maint-Marc, the third most important city in Haiti, is located in the department of Artibonite. It has more than 350,000 inhabitants. Le Syndicat des Eaux d’Ile de France et l’OREPA Centre have set up a decentralized cooperation with the aim of reinforcing the essential service of the city, especially the field of access to drinking water. In this framework, HAMAP plays the role of project management assistant. The management of the drinking water is assumed by the Haitian company SESAM (Société des Eaux de Saint-Marc). This is the first public-private partnership (PPP) for drinking water in Haiti.
Goal
To improve essential services for the inhabitants of the municipality of Saint-Marc
- Conduct preliminary studies
- Rehabilitation of 9km of water pipes in the city's priority neightborhoods
- Implementation of ancillary work on the city's water network
- Installation of 600 house connections
- Awareness sessions for the population
- Support measures for local authorities
- 10 000 beneficiaries and approximately 80 000 indirect beneficiaries
