Adduction and extension of drinking water supply works
Villages of Foumbouni and Male-Grande-Comore
The villages are located in the commune of Itsahidi, which is situated in the southeast of the island of Grande Comore, in the region of Mbadjini Est. The island of Grande Comore does not have a collective drinking water network, and the rate of access to water is 12%. The population is subject to water shortages and waterborne diseases. The project is located in a rural area where water stress is particularly high. The two villages were dependent on the ONU 03 well which is currently inoperable because it is highly contaminated, too salty, and the pump no longer works. Thus the two villages are in lack of water.
Goal
Improving the sanitary conditions of the villages’ inhabitants
- Rehabilitation of ONU03 wells
- Installation of treated water tanks, desalination units and eletric pumps
- Trenches and pipes for the extension of the ONU03 well distribution network to reach the populations of Foumnouni and Male
- Sensitization of the population to water use practices and good hygiene practices
- 10,000 inhabitants
- 2 years
- 725,988
